“Peach State Pop-up” tours offer the chance to explore scenic, off-the-beaten-path places in Georgia, highlighting fun, seasonal birding experiences, as well as other natural wonders and cultural experiences.
Feathers with Furr is excited to join Buttonbush Farm on September 19 from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM for their inaugural Birds and Biscuits tour. Join us for a morning of birding, bird banding, native plants, and a biscuit brunch in Chickamauga, GA.
The tour, organized by Buttonbush Farm, takes place across two connected farms. We will begin at Eden's Harvest Permaculture Farm, exploring aquatic and forest habitats on a slow guided walk. From there we move to Buttonbush Farm & Nursery, where a Southeastern meadow-in-progress and woodland's edge round out the habitat picture. Two farms, three habitats, one morning.
Following the walk, Dr. David DesRochers, Ornithology professor at Dalton State College, will lead a live bird banding demonstration. Watch as birds are carefully caught, banded, measured, and released. It's a rare, up-close look at how scientists track bird populations and migration in real time.
After the demonstration, stay for a $10 biscuit brunch available for purchase and browse the native plant nursery.
No birding experience needed, just curiosity and comfortable walking shoes. Binoculars are recommended. Loaners will be available.
Buttonbush Farm is approximately 90 miles northwest of Atlanta. If you want to spend a night closer to the meetup location, nearby Fort Oglethorpe has hotel options. Dalton, GA and Chattanooga, TN are also less than 45 minutes away.
